Chapter 5: Chapter five was a very interesting chapter because Elijah has spent so much time with the White man and has got so close to him and that will make him act in another different way. He has also learned more English and that is really cool cause I would never think that he would want to learn English because hes has another fluent language and I wouldn’t know that hes would want to learn a whole other language and that really got my attention.

Chapter 6: Someone must shoot Gerald in the head with his revolver because he has done some bad stuff in the past that made him deserve whata he is going to do. This is a little thing called karma because he did bad stuff so bad stuff is going to happen to him. Nobody really wants this but What he has done he really deserves it. They brought new weapons to this war such as poison has, the gas mask, the potato masher also known as grenades, and also Lewis guns and mills bombs. Very intense weapons they will kill you within a second if you get hit.

Chapter 7: In this chapter when Grey eyes tries to attempt E with morphine, thing is he actually did it and lets just say he did not act so well. When Sean Patrick plays target practice with the white man that is when they got even closer than before because the white man basiacally taught Sean how to shoot an arrow. He really appreciated that because Sean always wanted to learn how to shoot and arrow and finally that day was his day and the white man fulfilled Seans dreams. Thompson also teaches Xavier how to be snipers and also Xaviers friend.

Chapter 8: In this chapter they start off of returning to Niskas story, she and her family moved into Moose Factory and they also become very dependant on the White Man. So on Niska continues to tell her story to Xavier, this is basically a way to help Xavier in the future and even now because this story that she is telling Xavier has alot of sad and happy moments and hopefully Xavier can learn from this outcome, and preform what Niska has done in the future and so on.

Chapter 9: In this chapter X and he made a huge accomplishment for their lifes, they are becoming accomplished snipers than means that they are more aware of their surroundings and also know how to shoot a sniper bullet with great accuracy. In the second half of this chapter, X explains his basic training in Ontario where he wins a shooting competition X might have a better shot than Elijah but that does not mean in any way he is a better killer. Thats what the quote means “X marks the spot”.

Chapter 10: The quote “I am to blame too” basically means that they are Guilty. The person who says that in this chapter basically wants to take the blame for who the other person actually is really meant for the blame. Some of the germans dig really deep in this chapter and alsodo not suffer from artillery, that basically means that they do not die without a fight and what ever is in there path they will destroy and fight with the last breath they got. That doesn’t mean that germans are not good in war, they just fight with all they got.

Chapter 11: The quote in this chapter “As the smoke clears, I see that rifle aimed above is now lying on the ground at an angle. The knowledge slow sinks in” That quote basically means that Elijah is starting to know the Xavier is thinking to take him out and that Elijah just has to watch out of every move that Xavier does. When they say “As the smoke clears I see that rifle aimed above, means that the rifle is aimed right above his ahead and has to be really aware.

Chapter 12: The quote “like a pet” Niska wants to trap him and keep him like a bet so she can basically torture him and pay back for what he has done to her. He did not treat her right, he treated her like just completely crap and at the end she finally wants to seduce him and actually treat him right because she actually felt bad for what she did.

Chapter 13: The Quote “According to the others, he is the resident expert, although I am a fine shot too. As fine as Elijah. But I don’t have the killing instinct for men” Xavier is saying this because he wants to earn some respect and actually go on the right track in life. He saying he is a fine shot too because he wants to make his self feel better and tell them that he is a good man not a bad man he actually does good stuff for people not bad stuff.

Chapter 14: The Quote “I know that it is much more than medicine. Much more” Xavier can see that Elijah wants the “medicine” because what Elijah is going through right now is ridiculous and has nothing left but Xavier and actually thinks he is a real friend and even close as like a brother. He really wants to take the medicine but he doesn’t because he does not want to get addicited and keep doing it because eventually it will kill him of him doing it to much. Xavier does is because he actually has nothing in life he is just on an adventure because he has too.

Chapter 15: The Quote “go out and find the source of my hurt and extinguish it” He is saying that he wants to go find my hurt and go destroy it because he does not want anybody knowing his “hurt” so he wants it destroyed. He does not want to be killed because if the people did find his “hurt” it will kill him instantly, no matter what.

Chapter 16: The Quote “Only A few Needlefuls are left” He is saying that their are only a certain ammount of needles left and that he needs to get more to survive and that he is addicted and can not live without them. Their is only two left and that can last him not very long before he goes crazy and doesn’t survive.

Chapter 17: The Quote “Since being wounded in our raid, he has given up fighting the morphine” This quote actually has alot of meaning in it because he tried to fight the morphine but than it finally hit him and he is just to addicted and their is no way that he will get out of not taking morphine he is just way to addicted and that morphine screwed him up.

Chapter 18: The Quote “jittery and afraid” The Canadians seem inspired by the winter weather, and start raiding the German lines until the latter and very jittery and afraid, which is not a good thing because being jittery and afraid means that they are scared, they are panicking, and just really do not know what to do.

Chapter 19: The Quote “Months that followed were the happiest of my life” She is saying that the months that were her good times really followed her because that is actually when she felt really happy and couldn’t be any happier because of some stuff that just happened to her.

Chapter 20: The Quote “Would have just gone” Xavier would have just left Elijah because he was no use to him anymore all he was doing was supplying him with food and bullets and he could be using that food and bullets to his advantage, so he would have just left him if he didn’t have that flash back of him with the good times they had together.
